Registration Wait Times

Prior to the implementation of Lean, the average registration time was 19.5 minutes to process a patient with the volume at 2443 patients.

Within 12 months of incorporating Lean principles and methodologies, the average registration time improved over 69% allowing more patients into the hospital; increasing hospital volume by 28% and reducing operating costs by $65K.

In the first four months following the implementation of Lean, the data collected represented a 24-hour period, which consists of high and low volume hours. To maximize the efficiency of the registration process, the focus had to be on the high volume hours. This resulted in a spike that is shown on the graph above in February.

Utilizing the data in February, adjustments were made to the process that resulted in the overall improvements in patient throughput and reduction in operating costs.
